Title: handle with early warning system for myocardial infarction
Question research:
How to develop a technological bracelet device that alerts people who are at risk of suffering a myocardial infarction through hardware and software that collects, analyzes and processes the data obtained?
Main goal:
Develop a technological bracelet device that alerts people who are at risk of suffering a myocardial infarction, using hardware and software that collects, analyzes and processes the data obtained.
Nowadays a prototype of the technological bracelet is being created in order to develop the hardware that provides the information through the sensors.
Problem description:
Acute myocardial infarction or AMI is one of the major causes of death in Colombia, with older adults being the most affected population, since they can suffer from various coronary diseases that increase the possibility of this condition manifesting itself.
Although it is a fact that the early detection of an AMI favors the patient's health, the existing devices make this objective difficult, because they are difficult to access for most people, they do not carry out constant monitoring and require several tests
Impacts:
The project generates a positive change, both for patients and for those in charge of performing the series of examinations, as it allows for a calmer, safer life, with constant, complete and effective monitoring, reducing the percentage of undetected deaths or conditions due to AMI. Therefore, it is aimed at residents of a geriatric home in Medellin, since the implementation of the device at the time of their routine on the health status of older adults will not affect their daily lives, increases the useful medical care and reduces the expenditure of energy used, taking into account that the electrical expenditure and the connection time of the handle is low unlike conventional methods of monitoring.
Justification:
For this reason, the research project seeks the creation of a handle-type electronic device. Which, by means of hardware and software, gathers, analyzes and processes the data obtained by the sensors in charge of measuring oxygen saturation, blood pressure and beats per minute, sending the results to a database for medical review; in case of detecting an abnormality in the myocardium and later generate an alert if it is considered necessary.
For the development of this, a census system that uses the PPG technique will be used; for being a more accessible and easy method to carry out vital measurements such as oxygen saturation in the blood; different from other conventional techniques such as electrocardiography, which is more expensive and requires large and robust equipment.
This, in association with other sensors and a signaling system, will be useful to measure heart rate and blood pressure, that is, all the variables necessary to determine the state of the myocardium.
Concepts:
Myocardial infarction is the death of a portion of the heart muscle that occurs when a coronary artery is completely obstructed. To determine this kind of infarction, when monitoring cardiac arrest, the analysis of beats per minute, oxygen saturation and blood pressure is required.
For the measurement of these, there are several methods, however, for the development of the handle, photoplethysmography will be used; This is a technique in which a beam of light is used to determine the volume of an organ or liquid tissue such as blood.
Background:
Our main antecedent is A Spectral Kurtosis-based Method to Extract Respiration Rate from Wearable PPG Signals, which is widely useful for the project, because it gives very useful information about the operation of PPG, how to interpret the signals obtained and how to couple this to A handle, therefore, provides a broad basis for the development of the project and provides a great variety of data.
